Manchester United and Liverpool are eyeing a move for Anderlecht wonderkid Bart Verbruggen in the summer, according to reports.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper received his first call up for the Netherlands senior team this week for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Verbruggen has made just 24 appearances for Belgian side Anderlecht since joining them from Dutch club NAC Breda and is under contract until 2025.
But he is already being linked to both United and Liverpool with Erik ten Hag and Jurgen Klopp ‘charmed’ by the youngster, according to Belgian outlet HLN.
Verbruggen recently spoke out about his future and said: ‘Will I still play here next season? That is a very direct question.
‘You know, I’m really not into that yet. June is still so far away, dude. I want to keep performing with Anderlecht first and then we’ll see. I am happy and well surrounded at this club.’
Verbruggen was also recently lauded by former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, who is now the captain of Anderlecht.
‘For me, Verbruggen has the potential to become one of the best goalkeepers in Europe,’ Vertonghen said. ‘If you see where he is now at 20.
‘We are also very close, we are practically neighbours in Antwerp. I have rarely seen such a personality at that age.
‘Modest, but very driven and ambitious. If I’m a top European club and I have the money to spend, I wouldn’t hesitate.’
Championship leaders Burnley, managed by Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany, attempted to sign Verbruggen last summer but Anderlecht rejected their approach.
Verbruggen is not the only player United and Liverpool are fighting over, with both clubs linked to Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga.
United and Liverpool are also among the clubs looking to bring in Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
