Rumours of a compilation of Metal Gear Solid remasters have returned, with hopes that Konami will reveal it during the latest State Of Play.
Although survival horror fans won’t complain at the fact that Konami is planning to release seemingly dozens of new Silent Hill games, it is odd that they’ve so far announced no plans for the ostensibly higher profile Castlevania and Metal Gear franchises.
The obvious problem with Metal Gear is that creator Hideo Kojima was hounded out of the company years ago, so it’s very difficult to make new games in the series, but that hasn’t stopped persistent rumours of remasters, remakes, and sequels to spin-offs such as Metal Gear Rising.
A remaster compilation has been rumoured many times, most recently last August when it was suggested it will contain the first three Metal Gear Solid games. And now a new rumour implies the reveal will happen tonight, during Sony’s State of Play showcase.
The rumour began with VGC writer Andy Robinson, who stated in a tweet that he’d ‘Had five beers on a Tuesday, AMA.’
He was promptly asked, ‘When’s this Metal Gear Solid collection coming out?’ to which his reply was: ‘Watch our podcast Thursday.’
Nothing else seems to have been said since but, as many have pointed out, it’s also the PlayStation State of Play showcase tonight, at 9pm, and Sony has already said that it will focus on third party games.
That could be a coincidence, but either way Robinson is implying that some news will be revealed today, although there doesn’t seem to be any time stated for when the VGC podcast will go live.
Many of the rumours surrounding Metal Gear are connected to Sony, with persistent suggestions that they are helping Konami to make an exclusive remake of the original game.
There’s never been any evidence for that, though, or indeed anything else, and as believable as the rumours sound there’s every chance they could still lead nowhere.
